A press release just last week said Tyler was out of the coma, but had a long recovery ahead.</span></span></span></p>

      <title>25 years later, it's still on display</title>

I was very happy to see the antique firetruck I drove at one of my past radio stations, for 10 years.</span></span></span></p>

<p style="margin-bottom:11px"><span style="font-size:12pt"><span style="line-height:115%"><span style="font-family:Aptos,sans-serif">The 1950 Autocar fire engine, which was first used in Colonie, and then Earlton in Greene County, was acquired by the radio station I was working at in 1992 to be used a remote broadcast vehicle.</span></span></span></p>

<p style="margin-bottom:11px"><span style="font-size:12pt"><span style="line-height:115%"><span style="font-family:Aptos,sans-serif">It was quite different driving it, as you had to &ldquo;double clutch&rdquo; and allow a little more distance to stop. Another feature was absolutely no heat in it, which made winter events interesting.</span></span></span></p>

<p style="margin-bottom:11px"><span style="font-size:12pt"><span style="line-height:115%"><span style="font-family:Aptos,sans-serif">The truck made its last run in August 2001, while traveling up route 81 in Greenville, it died. Repairs would have been too expensive, so I approached the museum to see if they would consider taking it, being Autocar fire engines were rare, and I would rather have it in a museum than rusting away in a junkyard. And many Americans say they&rsquo;d also be willing to pay more for stuff that&rsquo;s made here.</span></span></span></p>

He developed the heliograph; a technique used to produce&nbsp;<b><i><a href="http://historiccamera.com/cgi-bin/librarium2/pm.cgi?action=app_display&amp;app=datasheet&amp;app_id=1966&amp;" style="color:#467886; text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">the world&rsquo;s first known photograph in 1825</a></i></b>, the view from the window at Le Gras the family&rsquo;s estate.</span></span></span></p>

He is recognized for his invention of the daguerreotype process of photography. Tintypes were developed in 1856 by&nbsp;<b>Hamilton Smith</b>&nbsp;and decades later,&nbsp;<b>George Eastman</b>&nbsp;invented flexible and unbreakable film that could be rolled. This was the birth of the first Kodak that was offered for sale in 1888&hellip;the first&nbsp;<i>digital</i>&nbsp;camera was commercially sold in December of 1989 in Japan &ndash; and a year later, the first commercially available digital camera, in the United States, was the 1990 the Dycam Model 1. It was originally a commercial failure because it was black and white, low in resolution, and cost nearly $1,000 but this changed and soon became loved by photographers.
