August 7th is National Lighthouse Day!
The anniversary of the original date in 1789 when Congress approved the act to support lighthouses, beacons, and buoys. Each year, this day highlights the history of maritime safety and the keepers who cared for the structures.
Currently there are between 700-800 lighthouses in the United States. 70-75 are in New York State,
